Detour Capital is cash for your week when you need it. It is a short-term payday loan from a registered credit provider, paid into your Detour Drive Account, and paid back in one go from your next week's Uber earnings.

This page explains how it works, what it costs, and what to think about before you ask.

How much you can get

Your plan sets the amount. It is a fixed amount for each plan:

Plan You get You pay back Made up of
On-The-Go, R100 a week R500 R720 R500 + R120 interest and fees + R100 subscription
Professional Driver, R150 a week R1 000 R1 270 R1 000 + R120 interest and fees + R150 subscription
MyOwnBoss, R250 a week R2 500 R2 870 R2 500 + R120 interest and fees + R250 subscription

The subscription in it is your own plan's weekly fee for that week, not an extra charge. There is no admin fee and nothing else is added. If you move up or down a plan, the amount changes from the following week.

After that week your subscription carries on as normal. Detour Capital is one loan at a time: once it is paid back, you can ask again whenever you need it, while your subscription is active.

How to ask for it

  1. Join Detour on any plan and open your Detour Drive Account in the Detour driver app.
  2. Ask for Detour Capital in the app. You see exactly what you will pay back before you ask.
  3. Your request is assessed by the credit provider. Approval is not guaranteed.
  4. If it is approved, you get a quotation and a credit agreement. Read them before you accept.
  5. Once you accept, the money is paid into your Detour Drive Account.

If your request is declined, we tell you, and nothing is owed.

How you pay it back

The full amount comes off your next week's Uber earnings, in one payment. There is no debit order on your bank account, and there is no option to spread it over more weeks. One week is the only term.

If your earnings that week are not enough to cover it, we contact you first. What happens to an amount that is not paid on time is set by your credit agreement, so it is worth reading that part carefully.

If you stop driving with an amount still owing, it remains owing, and it can be taken from earnings that later reach Detour for you. We contact you first.

Why it is built this way

  • A fixed cost in rands, shown first, so you know the total before you say yes.
  • One week only, so nothing builds up or rolls over.
  • Paid back from the earnings that pay for it, when you are paid.
  • No hidden fees, and nothing that turns up later on a statement.

Before you ask

Ask yourself one question: can next week's Uber earnings carry the repayment and your normal costs? If yes, Detour Capital can help you through a repair, a licence renewal or a slow week. If not, borrowing will make next week harder. Only ask for what you know you can pay back.

This is general information, not financial advice. The full Detour Capital terms, including who the credit provider is, are in the legal documents on our site.

Cash this week, paid back next week, and nothing after that.
