For car owners

Your car can earn without you driving it.

List it with Detour. We find the driver, vet them, get the car onto Uber and manage it. You earn what the car makes, less our fee.

How it works

Four things we do

We find and vet the driver
Or we vet the one you already have in mind. Either way they are Detour Verified before they get your keys:
  • Identity (KYC). We confirm who the driver is and keep a verified profile.
  • Background and criminal checks. Run before a driver is put forward to you.
  • Home inspection. We visit to make sure your car will be kept safe. If it will not be, we do not present that driver to you.
  • Licence verification. We confirm the driver's licence is valid.
  • Traffic fines. We check for outstanding traffic fines.
We get the car onto Uber
The inspection, the paperwork and the platform onboarding are ours to run.
We arrange cover
Through KMJ One Capital, an authorised financial services provider, FSP 48696. Detour introduces you to them and does not advise you on insurance.
You get paid monthly
What the car earns on Uber, less the driver's share and our monthly fee, is paid to you every month.

Our fee, in plain words

A fixed R1 000 a month. Here's how it's paid:

  1. 1 R500 when you list. You pay it by card, straight after you send us your car's details. If we can't take your car, we refund your R500.
  2. 2 R500 once your car is onboarded. When your car is on Uber, its permit is confirmed and the background checks are done, we send you a link to pay it by card.
  3. 3 Then R1 000 a month from what the car earns. From the next month we take it from the car's earnings before we pay you, so you don't pay it from your own pocket.

Detour operates the vehicle. You keep ownership, and the car stays yours to take back. Full terms are agreed in writing before anything starts.

Which Uber products a car qualifies for depends on Uber's requirements in your city, and those change. Your agent confirms it before you take the car.

We send the rest of the car's details here for you to fill in.

One party to deal with. You do not have to change your insurer. KMJ One Capital can act as the broker on the cover you already have, so claims, renewals and anything the driver causes go through one place instead of three.

Leave it unticked and stay exactly as you are. We will ask you to upload your insurance schedule so we can check the cover allows a driver placed through Detour.
