Why we built Detour Capital the way we did
Driver finance can make money from drivers who struggle, or from drivers who do well. We chose the second. Here is how that shapes every part of the product.

How can we help?
Common questions
Hi, I'm Kairah. I can explain how Detour works: subscriptions, Detour Capital, or how to sign up. What do you need?
What do the subscriptions cost?
Three weekly tiers. On-The-Go is R100 a week and lets you borrow R500 of Detour Capital. Professional Driver is R150 a week and lets you borrow R1 000 of Detour Capital. MyOwnBoss is R250 a week and lets you borrow R2 500 of Detour Capital. Mobility Vouchers, for petrol, diesel and EV charging, come with every tier, and the weekly fee is non-refundable.
See full pricingHow does Detour Capital work?
Detour Capital is cash when you need it, R500 a week on On-The-Go, R1 000 on Professional Driver, and R2 500 on MyOwnBoss. On On-The-Go, take R500, pay back R720. On Professional Driver, take R1 000, pay back R1 270. On MyOwnBoss, take R2 500, pay back R2 870. That is what you borrow, plus R120 interest and fees, plus your plan's weekly subscription, and you pay it all back in one week, from your next week's Uber earnings. After that week your subscription carries on as normal. Once it is paid back, you can ask again whenever you need it, while your subscription is active. It is paid into your Detour Drive Account, which you open in the driver app.
Detour CapitalHow do I sign up?
Sign up in the Detour driver app, on driver.detour.africa. I ask a few questions there, one at a time: whether you have your own car or need one, and your details. Then an onboarding agent calls you back, usually the same working day.
Sign upTell me about Mobility Vouchers
Mobility Vouchers let you fill up with petrol or diesel, or charge an electric vehicle, before payday. EV charging is on every plan. For petrol and diesel, On-The-Go covers motorbikes and scooters, up to R500 a week; for a car you need Professional Driver or MyOwnBoss. What a voucher costs is confirmed before you sign up, and it is separate from your weekly subscription. It is not Detour Capital, which is cash you borrow and pay back the week after.
What drivers getCan I get a car through Detour?
Yes. Subscribe to Drive puts you in a new car for one weekly amount, with insurance, servicing, tyres and licensing already in it. No loan and no balloon at the end. The electric EV4s need a R2 500 deposit, one week: you pay R500 upfront, and Detour Capital lends you the other R2 000, paid back as R2 370 from your earnings within a week.

Tell me what's wrong here and I'll help if I can. If it's something I can't sort out, like a payment that went wrong or an accident, speak to an agent on WhatsApp or by email. A person answers on weekdays, from 10:00 to 15:00; outside those hours I'm here. Have the mobile number on your Detour account ready so they can find you.
Speak to an agentI want to speak to a person
Of course. Speak to an agent on WhatsApp, the fastest way to reach us, or by email if you need to send a document. A person answers on weekdays, from 10:00 to 15:00.
