Moving to Detour

Already driving for someone else?

Renting a car every week, driving an owner's car, or on another fleet. You are the person most of this site forgets to talk to, so this page is for you.

How it works

Three steps, and you do the talking

We do not phone your fleet or your owner. That conversation is yours to have, and it goes better when you already know the numbers.

  1. 01

Tell us what you are on now

Two questions in the application: whether you rent the car or drive it for an owner, and what you pay for it each week. That is all we need to start.

  2. 02

An agent works through it with you

What your week looks like now against what it would look like with us, and what your current agreement is likely to want from you to end it. We read it with you; we do not sign anything.

  3. 03

You decide, and then you move

If it works, we put you in a car and your application carries on from where it was. If it does not, you have the numbers anyway and nothing has changed.

What happens to your Uber

You keep your profile and your rating. You do not start again.

Years of trips and a rating you earned are not something a change of car should cost you, and they do not. What changes depends on which door you come in, and we would rather you read it here than find out later.

In a Detour car
Your Uber profile moves into Detour's fleet. Your earnings land in our Uber wallet and we pay them into your Detour account every Tuesday. Your profile, your trips and your rating stay yours throughout. Kairah says this in the application, before you commit to anything.
In your own car
Nothing moves. The Uber account stays entirely yours and we sit beside it.
Driving a Detour car on our account
That is the job rather than a subscription, and there the account is ours. It has its own page and that page says so.

The difference

What usually changes when you move

Written against what drivers tell us they are on now, not against any one competitor.

More of this

  • Yes: One weekly amount, with insurance, tracking, maintenance and AA cover already in it.
  • Yes: Detour Capital when you need cash, with what you pay back stated before you ask.
  • Yes: A statement that names everything that came off, every week.
  • Yes: Kairah for answers any time, and a person on WhatsApp when something goes wrong.
  • Yes: Courses that carry on paying after the week ends.

Not this

  • No: A weekly rental with the running costs still to find on top.
  • No: A loan that rolls over week after week, with the cost found out later.
  • No: Working out what came off by reading a bank statement backwards.
  • No: A number that stops replying when the car breaks.
  • No: Nothing left over at the end of the year you just worked.

FAQ

What drivers ask before they move

Can my current fleet stop me leaving?

That depends on what you signed, and it is worth reading before you do anything else. Most weekly rentals need notice rather than a settlement. We go through it with you and you have the conversation.

Do you phone them for me?

No. We work out the numbers with you and you do the talking. We are not a party to your agreement with somebody else, and saying we would handle it is a promise we have not made to anybody.

What if I owe them money?

Tell the agent on the call. It changes what makes sense and when, and it is better said early than discovered in week two.

Do I lose my rating?

No. Your profile, your trips and your rating are yours. In a Detour car the profile moves into our Uber fleet, which is a change of fleet and not a new account.

How long does it take?

An agent usually calls the same working day. How fast you can actually move depends on the notice your current agreement wants, which is the first thing we work out.

Start with the numbers

Two questions in, you will have told us what you pay now. That is the whole conversation, and nothing is signed by answering it.

Talk to a person on WhatsApp

A person answers on weekdays, from 10:00 to 15:00. Outside those hours, Kairah answers straight away, and the team picks up your message on the next working day.

For a payment that went wrong, an accident or damage, or a problem with your account. Have the mobile number on your Detour account to hand.
