How Detour's weekly plans and fees work
Three weekly plans, what the fee covers, and what happens when you change or leave.

Detour runs on a weekly plan. You pick the plan that fits how you drive, and you pay a flat fee every week. That fee is what keeps your benefits and Detour Capital available to you.
The three plans
- On-The-Go, R100 a week. Made for new drivers, under a year on the road. Detour Capital of R500.
- Professional Driver, R150 a week. Made for full-time drivers with no other income. Detour Capital of R1 000.
- MyOwnBoss, R250 a week. Made for drivers running it like a business. Detour Capital of R2 500.
Mobility Vouchers, for petrol, diesel and EV charging, are on every plan. On On-The-Go, petrol and diesel are for motorbikes and scooters. For a car, you need Professional Driver or MyOwnBoss.
What the fee covers
Each plan carries a set of benefits. In short:
- On-The-Go: medical assistance, armed response, pothole assist, fine payment and vehicle licence renewal.
- Professional Driver: data-free use of the Uber Driver app, Google Maps and Waze, a reduced subscription to Cartrack Dual Vision, AA roadside patrol assistance (100 km round trip) with a tow at a reduced AA rate you pay yourself, the AA Stand-by-you service (100 km roundtrip), telephonic legal and technical advice, medical assistance, and pothole assist, fine payment and licence renewal.
- MyOwnBoss: everything on Professional Driver, with the tow included in AA roadside assistance rather than at a reduced rate, roadside and Stand-by-you at 200 km round trip, and the higher Detour Capital amount. A tow after an accident runs through the insurer.
If you want a car from Detour through Subscribe to Drive, you need to be on MyOwnBoss. On-The-Go and Professional Driver are for drivers using their own vehicle.
How the fee is charged
- The fee is weekly, charged in advance, and not refundable once the week has started.
- It is collected from your Detour account. If you drive a Detour car or have taken Detour Capital, it is taken from money that reaches Detour for you, before the rest is paid to you.
- If there is not enough in your account one week, the shortfall carries over to the next amount that reaches us. Your plan does not lapse because of one short week, and Detour adds no penalty or charge to a carried shortfall.
- The weekly fee is not a deposit and does not build up into a balance you can draw.
Where your subscription in Detour Capital fits
When you take Detour Capital, what you pay back includes that week's subscription for your own plan (R100, R150 or R250), collected in the same payment as the loan and the R120 interest and fees. This is shown as one total so you are not left wondering what comes off next week. For example, on Professional Driver you take R1 000 and pay back R1 270 all in.
Changing or leaving your plan
- Move up at any time. The new fee and the higher Detour Capital amount start the following week.
- Move down or cancel at any time, from the following week.
- Moving down or cancelling does not cancel anything you already owe, such as Detour Capital still to be paid back.
- If you have a car from Detour, you stay on MyOwnBoss while you have it. With an electric bike you can be on any plan.
If Detour ever changes a plan's price or what it includes, you are told before it affects you, and the change takes effect no sooner than 30 days after that.
Not sure which plan?
Start with how you drive. Fewer than a year on the road, or on a bike? On-The-Go. Full time in your own car? Professional Driver. In a Detour car, or running it like a business? MyOwnBoss. Our guide to choosing a plan goes through it in more detail.
One weekly fee, and you know what it buys.
