Conflict of interest policy
Where Detour's interests and yours could pull in different directions, and what we do about it.
Effective October 23, 2026
Back to all legal documentsDetour Capital is a short-term payday loan from Pronto Loans, a registered credit provider (NCRCP 10240). Read Pronto Loans' terms and conditions.
This policy is Detour's own. Detour Holdings t/a Detour Limited (Pty) Ltd is not a financial services provider and is not a registered credit provider, so this is not a conflict of interest management policy under the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act. It is published because the conflicts below are real whether or not a law requires us to say so.
A conflict of interest is any situation where what is good for Detour, or for somebody at Detour, could influence what we recommend to you.
The conflicts we actually have
Named rather than described in general terms, because a policy that does not name its own conflicts is not telling you anything.
- We introduce drivers and owners to an insurance broker, KMJ One Capital, FSP 48696, and we may be paid by that broker for the introduction. We have an interest in you taking cover through them.
- We stand between a vehicle owner and a driver, and we are paid by both. Our margin on what a driver pays is money that does not reach the owner.
- We find and screen the drivers an owner chooses from. We have an interest in a vehicle being on the road.
- We may be paid by a partner, such as fuel, tracking, roadside or courses, for putting their product in front of drivers.
- We may introduce a driver to a credit provider and be paid for the introduction. For Detour Capital, we pass drivers' requests to Pronto Loans, and the R150 subscription is collected in the same repayment. We have an interest in drivers taking Detour Capital.
What we do about them
- We tell you. Detour's margin on what a driver pays is disclosed to an owner before they sign. Where we are paid by a partner or a broker for an introduction, we say so before you take it.
- We do not advise. Detour gives no advice on insurance, on credit or on any financial product, and nobody at Detour is authorised to.
- An owner chooses their own driver, from candidates with their checks attached. Nobody drives a vehicle because Detour said so.
- You may keep your own insurer, your own tracker and your own arrangements. None of them is a condition of listing a vehicle with us.
- Where we cannot manage a conflict, we decline the work rather than take it.
Gifts and inducements
Nobody at Detour may accept a gift, a payment or any other benefit from a partner, a supplier or a customer that could reasonably be expected to influence what they do. Anything beyond ordinary hospitality is declined or declared to a director.
Nobody at Detour is paid a commission for putting a driver or an owner onto a particular insurer, a particular credit provider or a particular partner.
People at detour
Anybody at Detour with a personal interest in a supplier, a partner, a driver or an owner declares it to a director and takes no part in a decision about them.
A director with an interest in a matter declares it and does not vote on it.
If you think a conflict was not managed
Tell us, through the Complaints procedure. A complaint about a conflict goes to a director, not to the person it concerns.
