What we ask of you

• No deposit

  Nothing to pay upfront. The car comes with a Mobility Voucher of R1 000 every week, paid into your Detour Account every Thursday and taken back first from your earnings, with R120 interest and fees. Detour Capital is a short-term loan from a registered credit provider. Each request is assessed, so approval is not guaranteed.

• A valid licence and ID

  A South African driving licence and the right to work here. You confirm both when you apply, and bring certified copies of your licence and ID to the call.

• A smartphone

  You need one to drive: the Uber app, the Detour app and the deliveries you take all run on it.

• Somewhere we operate

  We are in 15 cities across South Africa. Tell us where you are and your agent confirms what is available there.

• No criminal record

  Applicants must have no criminal record to be approved. It is checked before you are given a vehicle.

• Join our fleet

  The car is in Detour's Uber fleet, so you drive it as part of the fleet. Your Uber earnings come into your Detour Drive Account, and your week comes off first.

• Insurance included

  Insurance, tracking and maintenance come with the car. What the cover includes, and what it does not, is set out before you sign.

• Somewhere to keep it

  The car goes home with you, and keeping it somewhere secure is yours to arrange. Your agent talks through where it will be kept before you collect it.
