Which Uber products a car qualifies for depends on Uber's requirements in your city, and those change. Your agent confirms it before you take the car.

What we ask of you

• R225 upfront

  A deposit of R1 225, one week. You pay R225 upfront, and Detour Capital lends you the other R1 000: you pay back R1 220 (R1 000 + R120 interest and fees + R100 On-The-Go subscription) from your earnings within a week of getting the bike. No bike is released until the upfront payment is received.

• A valid licence and ID

  A South African driving licence and the right to work here. You confirm both when you apply, and bring certified copies of your licence and ID to the call.

• A smartphone

  You need one to drive: the Uber app, the Detour app and the deliveries you take all run on it.

• Somewhere we operate

  We are in 15 cities across South Africa. Tell us where you are and your agent confirms what is available there.

• No criminal record

  Applicants must have no criminal record to be approved. It is checked before you are given a vehicle.

• Uber consent

  You accept Uber's consent so Detour deductions come off your earnings. It happens on Uber's own site and takes a minute.

• Cover through our broker

  The bike is ours, on the road, under your driving, so insurance arranged by KMJ One Capital is a condition rather than an offer.

• Somewhere to keep it

  The bike goes home with you, and keeping it somewhere secure is yours to arrange. Your agent talks through where it will be kept before you collect it.
